One paper. Two perspectives. One network.
The SNIO Journal Club is a monthly online meeting that brings members of our network together around one scientific publication in integrative oncology. It is a joint initiative of the SNIO Research Working Group and the SNIO Education Working Group.
Each session looks at the same paper from two complementary angles:
Integrative oncology. What does this study teach us about a clinical topic, an intervention or a question in integrative oncology?
Research methodology. What can we learn from the way the question was studied — the design, the population, the outcomes, the limitations?
The Journal Club aims to:
- discover and discuss emerging evidence across the different fields of integrative oncology;
- develop skills in critical appraisal and research methodology;
- encourage interdisciplinary exchange between physicians, nurses, therapists, and researchers;
- connect colleagues and institutions across the SNIO network;
- stimulate ideas and collaborations for future research.
Sessions are short, regular and deliberately informal. Everyone working in a SNIO member institution is welcome, whatever their profession, language region or research background.
How To Join
The connection link is circulated by e-mail to SNIO members shortly before each session. To be added to the list, write to info@integrative-oncology.ch.
Format
Monthly · Online · 12:30–13:00
- 20 minutes — presentation of the paper
- 10 minutes — discussion
- First Wednesday of the month (except during school breaks), 10 sessions a year
- Presentations are normally given in English, so that colleagues from all language regions of Switzerland can take part

Presenters come from across the SNIO network — different institutions, professions and language regions.
Would you like to present?
All SNIO members and colleagues from SNIO member institutions are warmly invited to take a session. You may:
- propose a paper you have already chosen;
- suggest a topic and ask us to help you identify a suitable paper;
- volunteer to present and ask the Research Working Group for support with the methodological appraisal.
No previous research experience is required. The Journal Club is meant for the whole network — oncologists and other physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, psycho-oncology professionals, complementary and integrative medicine practitioners, researchers and educators alike.

Preparing your Journal Club
A suggested structure for the 20 minutes (max. 15 slides)
- Why this paper? Why is this question relevant to integrative oncology?
- What did they ask? The research question, in PICO terms if that fits.
- What did they do? Design, population, intervention, outcomes.
- What did they find? The main results.
- Can we believe it? Strengths, limitations, risk of bias, methodological considerations.
- So what? Implications for clinical practice and for future research.
Past Journal Clubs
Past sessions will be added here: date, presenter, institution, paper, topic and a few take-home messages. Slides are shared only when the presenter agrees.
Sessions are not recorded. We would rather encourage an open scientific discussion.
